Who decides to start a blog in 2024?! That's right, it's me.
My name's Sophie, and I'm a professional video game designer. The focus of my blog Psychic Damage is reality TV involving social deduction and strategy games (particularly the Dutch and Belgian variety). This is one of my more niche special interests, and I've been looking for a creative outlet for it since I became obsessed (again) last year. We’re in a blessed era right now, with Wie is de Mol? 2024 and De Verraders Season 4 and The Traitors US Season 2 all airing simultaneously, so we should be off to a strong start.
The reason I love this subgenre of reality TV is because it's thrilling, unpredictable, and requires lots of careful design decisions to pull off. While Survivor and Big Brother are household names, I tend to get more excited about obscure contemporary formats, so hopefully readers will discover something new while they're here. Most of the shows I write about involve finding clues, keeping secrets, and making relationship-driven decisions, with players being progressively eliminated from the game.

My hope is that this blog will help establish me as a subject matter expert and connect me with fans around the world. I was originally writing on Substack, but it just didn't feel right (and that platform might not last much longer, due to the Nazi thing). Maybe a classic blog format with Y2K LiveJournal vibes will enable me to write more freely.
